Local Development

A study of Ecuadorian society and investigation into possible alternatives to improve the living conditions of the country’s more vulnerable populations; observation of community development activities that optimize use of local resources and represent a new development model that emphasizes social inclusion.

Ecology

An intercultural learning opportunity to discover the diversity of Ecuador’s distinctive regions; includes observation of the socio-cultural, economic, and political aspects of Ecuador as students visit the Amazon, coastal regions and beaches, mountains of the Sierra, the Galapagos Islands.

Health
  • A Study of both Western and indigenous health systems, with the participation of health professionals and Yachacs, linking leaders from different socio-cultural sectors (indigenous, afro, mestizo (?), men, women, farmers) to prompt dialogues about the importance of sustaining and incorporating ancestral wisdom and knowledge into Western health practices.
  • Includes internships to further each student’s study of the health care system(s) from medical and social points of view.
